Wait, you work on Sundays?
I’m getting a big wooden spoon to stir this pot. It’s time.
I have strong Christian roots and I work on Sunday mornings. Many Christians I have served in my career express confusion. How can one be a Christian and work on Sundays? Don’t you love God? Don’t you love Jesus? Don’t you miss the connection with other Christians? Don’t you miss church?
My answer usually is like this. “I see God in the smiles and laughter of the toddlers I serve. I feel the love of God in the wind and see Him in the beautiful flowers. When I hike in the mountains, his love surrounds me. I ride mybbike and see the smiles of others. My coworkers bring me laughter and love. The thunderstorms are amazing and the beautiful days are appreciated. I don’t need to go to church to experience God. He’s all around me.”
Some of them understand this answer. Others don’t.
I went to seminary to become a chaplain. Although I’m not in the military, overnighting at ER at the city hospital, or helping a hospice patient take their last breath, I still do chaplain work. Smiles are brought to the table and laughter is shared.
