Mr. Crane
Every once in a while, celebrities come through our doors. One time, Bill Murray came to eat. Visiting professional athletes come by as well. Even an actor from the Park and Recreation sitcom came through to eat. (Twice!)
The rule is that unless you are their server, leave the celebrities alone. Tough rule to follow especially with the selfie craze going on. The rule is followed nonetheless with huge sighs of star-struck regret….
One Saturday, I was at work on a typical Saturday afternoon. Many families are coming through. A few friends were coming in for a bite to eat before beginning their day. I was just plugging along and then I saw him.
I saw Michael Crane.
Who is this Michael Crane you ask? Well, in the homebrew scene, he’s a celebrity. And yours truly is part of a local homebrew community. He’s THE Crane in the Crane Brewing Company located in Raytown, MO. They specialize in sour beers. Like my boss, he won so many amateur competitions that he decided to start his own business. And business is good!
I ran over to my colleague who was serving him and through much sputtering, I explained who he was serving. Like the cool cucumber he was, he of course took excellent care of them.
Last week, Michael Crane was a guest speaker at my home brew meeting. I told him that I saw him and was excited to see him there. He stated that he loved he food and complimented the owner for running a smooth business.
He also said that if I saw him again, go on ahead and say hi to him. You got it Mr. Crane!
