Server Tears

I had a coworker, a fellow brother in the restaurant business. A rock. He always greeted people with a smile and a hug. He and I were two members of then exclusive “Water Bottle Elite”. Whenever we worked together, we were assigned to filling water bottles throughout the night for the restaurant.

He was a gentle and kind man. But as time wore on, the smile began to fade. He didn’t hug as much. He would sometimes just stare off into space.

He was very depressed right in front of our eyes. But you see, the whole restaurant crew were totally unaware of how sad he was. No clue. We had no clue until we heard of his decision to end his life.

We asked “why” many many times. We cried. We were angry. Most of all, we were stunned. Why didn’t we see it, you know? Could we have prevented his decision?

The GM who trained us both was at the funeral. She told me of the memento she left at the table in his section. Server crew, if you go to Table 71 and look underneath the table, you’ll find the memory that was left. It’s a poem the truly reflected his loving heart. The Prayer of St. Francis rings true.

Love is the most powerful energy in the Universe. Share love even if it’s a little bit. Receive love even if it’s a little bit. The healing that can happen through love is miraculous. Keep the love flowing.
