Think Ahead!
I’m in between shifts and preparing to head back in. But I’d love to share a story with y’all.
One Saturday afternoon about 3 months ago, I was one of three servers on the floor when there was a “pop” of customers. This made the rotations quicker and I had to think on my feet. I’ll be the first to admit that at times, switching from a slow pace to a faster one can be a challenge for me. This day was one of those times it was a challenge.
I was in the kitchen and saw my favorite bartender. I said to her, “I’m behind!” She looked at me with that no nonsense look of hers and said (quite sternly I may add), “Then think ahead!!” And right back out of the kitchen she went. I was there with my jaw hanging down for a sec.
To this day, that lesson still sticks with me. I have applied that lesson in more fields than just my job. Great advice from a great bartender and friend.
