Ink Pens Yay!
een debating what the next chronicle should be. So I thought I’d go random and discuss the one thing that is close to all servers no matter where they serve. What is this one item, you ask? The answer is simple.
Ink pens.
While a tasty adult beverage is definitely a very close second, I would wager that each server would look at you very closely if you were to ask to borrow their pen. There’s only one other profession that takes pens as seriously and that would be our hard working nurses.
Pens are sacred. Writing down the details of a complicated order is the difference between 10% or a 20% tip. We have great memories sure. But when you have a table when one person wants extra cheese on their salad, the other doesn’t want cheese or tomatoes, while a third wants their dressing on the side, the server has to get it right or be wondering where the gas money will be coming from.
So if you’re at a table and the server trusts you with that sacred pen for signing the credit card slip, go on ahead and leave the pen there. And if you really want to add an extra smile, leave an extra black clicky pen (in addition to that awesome tip 🙂 ).
