Cut Thumb
So how did I cut the tip of my thumb, you ask? I can explain. It was the beginning of the shift. I was cutting lemons, you see? That’s one of the opener’s duties. And then, there were folks who came in. No host on duty yet since it was so early in the shift. So yours truly escorted them to a server’s table.
And then…they asked the question. …*sigh*… “We have a gluten free, salt free, and dairy free diet. Can you work with us?” Of course we can!
Now no offense to those who have a sensitive diet. Please take no offense. I was just baffled. Allow me to explain.
I opened a brunch shift. What’s a typical brunch? Eggs with milk premade, toast with butter, and salted potatoes with butter. We had little to no alternatives. So there’s gluten, salt, and dairy in all of the brunch items. What in the world could be substituted?
So as I’m pondering all this while cutting lemons, my angle is off by just enough degrees to nip the tip of my thumb.
I’m okay. All is bandaged and will heal in time.
